U.S. Route 50 signs had to stay up Friday to route traffic through Fifth Street until the Blennerhassett Island Bridge ceremony finished up but work on the signs isn't over yet.
Local and statewide West Virginia Division of Highways crews were out Friday to replace many large and small signs routing traffic on U.S. Route 50 to the bridge.
"Seventh Street has been re-routed as State Route 618 in West Virginia and with the conclusion of this project, the Belpre Bridge will become WV Route 618 as well," Tim Kirk, regional traffic engineer for West Virginia Division of Highways.
Officials say they're focusing on signs directing traffic from West Virginia to Ohio to the new U.S. Route 50 freeway first.
Next are the interchange signs and lastly taking down the old U.S. Route 50 signs down from the Fifth Street and Belpre Bridge signs.
