One year ago Saturday, the last link of the Corridor D project was completed...with the opening to traffic of the Blennerhassett Island bridge.

One celebration of that anniversary has already taken place.

A gathering was organized late last month...of the construction workers who helped build the bridge...said to be the longest of its kind in West Virginia.

"We spent a lot of time together, and we looked back at the accomplishment that was undertaken, and it still amazes us," said "Kip" Hall, the bridge's construction engineer. "We are very proud of what we have done."

That bridge linked Corridor D to Ohio...and Belpre officials are celebrating the anniversary with events Friday night and Saturday.

A sternwheel cruise was held Friday night, and on Saturday, there will be a festival at Civitan Park. It starts at 11 in the morning and runs throughout the day.
