While most thoughts were on Mom Sunday, some were on the skies.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for western and central West Virginia around noontime until 3:00 p.m. Sunday.

A line of severe thunderstorms swept through the region, shaking homes with thunder and provoking concern of possible damage.

The line was somewhat weaker as it reached Parkersburg and Marietta, but still surprised some.

The line of storms was an outer band, the first of several waves of heavy ran as a low pressure center slowly swept through Ohio, bringing storms and high humidity on Mother's Day.

The Tornado Watch had included Jackson, Roanne and Calhoun counties among others, but centered on Huntington and Charleston. As a result, television stations in Charleston put up radar images and pre-empted regular programming around noon.

Such drastic action was not necessary in Parkersburg, but the pre-emptions did provoke attention and concern in the developing rainy day.

Later, a Tornado Warning was issued for Delaware county, but that severe weather did not sweep through Washington nor Wood counties in the MOV.

The fowl weather is expected to continue through Sunday night before high pressure replaces it on Monday.
