There were more long lines outside the clinics in Wood and Washington county Saturday.

They were long to begin with...but once the clinics began, people were able to get their vaccines fairly quickly.

"He has asthma, so I was afraid if he got it, he would get really sick," said Jennifer Fenton. "It was worth the wait."

But at the Dils Center clinic, the lines were mostly inside instead of outside. The outside lines came before the clinic's scheduled 8 AM opening.

"We had the first people show up at 6 AM, but we've been getting them through," said Carrie Brainard, Flu Information Coordinator for the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department. "The line's long, but it's moving consistently. So we're doing pretty good, I think."

At the Washington County Health Department, it was no lines and no waiting past that clinic's opening.

In spite of the quicker process, the flu vaccine is still slow in coming to West Virginia and the area.

"It goes through all the quality assurances and control checks," said Cathy Slemp, Health Officer for the West Virginia Health Department. "As we expected, it comes out gradually, and it's challenging for all of us, no doubt."

And it's still of the nasal spray variety. State health officials tell us that the amount of vaccine coming to the region still is expected to vary from week to week.

"It looks like we have our increased supply through November, with more coming in December and January," Slemp says. "So over time, we expect everyone who wants to be vaccinated to be able to get vaccinated."

The Washington County Health Department says that, while a schedule hasn't yet been finalized, it expects to hold the first of its clinics for school-age youngsters this week.

And the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department plans more flu vaccine clinics in the next few days.
