Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia cities with cash-strapped pension funds could be in store for some relief when the legislature heads to the Capitol next week.

Gov. Joe Manchin's office says he plans to call a multi-item special session during the three-day series of interim meetings scheduled to start Tuesday.

Topping the agenda is a long-debated plan to help ease funding shortfalls in municipal police and fire pension programs.

Another measure offers short-term relief to county school boards concerned about their retirees' non-pension costs.

Manchin also plans to propose language allowing counties to pursue stimulus-funded development bonds.

Other likely agenda items include changes to the state gas tax and funding for a Medicaid waiver program.
