Middlebourne, W.Va. (AP) -- Tyler County schools are back in business with improved attendance since taking a few days off to recover from swine flu.

The Wetzel-Tyler Health Department closed the schools on Monday and Tuesday, with the Veterans day holiday providing an additional day to recover from rampant illness.

The four county schools logged huge absentee rates before the break, with one elementary school reporting nearly 40 percent of students absent last week.

The health department's Dorothy Lockett says absentee rates have dropped at all schools, among both staff and students.

There were 11 teachers out sick last Friday, but on Thursday only two couldn't make it to work.
