A local bank employee is out on bond Monday, accused of stealing almost $60,000 from an account at an area People's Bank branch.
Forty-seven year old Melinda Norris is accused of withdrawing $58,000 from an acquaintance's account without persmission.
Norris is employed at the People's Bank in Lower Salem.
The victim said she had previously allowed Norris to withdraw money as a loan and that, at that time, Norris had paid her back.
But, last week, the victim told detectives that Norris admitted to withdrawing $50,000, and then an additional $8,000 without permission in June to cover medical bills.
Norris was questioned by authorities, and arrested.
Norris has been charged with two felony charges of theft.
She is out on a $50,000 bond after spending one day in jail.
