Beckley, W. Va. (AP) - Searchers have temporarily suspended the search for a firefighter missing since a boat accident during flood rescue efforts in Raleigh County.

Homeland Security and Emergency Management Director Jimmy Gianato said darkness prompted searchers to stop for the night Sunday evening.

The Kanawha County firefighter was part of a crew sent to help with water rescues near Beckley when their boat flipped Saturday.

Rescuers combed the area on foot and by air this weekend.

Separately, a Bradley woman died after being swept away in a flooded stream near her home Saturday.

Authorities say the combination of 1 to 3 inches of rain and melting snow resulted in heavy flooding in Raleigh, Greenbrier, Fayette and Mercer counties.

Governor Joe Manchin has declared a state of emergency for 34 counties.
