Steve Stephens, Chief of Police in Vienna since 2005, is leaving that post to become Director of Confinement Operations for Wood County.

Stephens and Sheriff Jeff Sandy confirmed Stephens appointment to that office today.

The director of confinement operations oversees the home confinement and holding center.

“I have known Chief Stephens for 30 years, and he is a capable person that will be an asset to the Sheriffs Office," said Wood County Commission President Rick Modesitt, in a statement released by the sheriff's office. "He is knowledgeable, professional, and capable. I welcome him aboard."

Vienna Mayor Nohe advised that Chief Stephens will be truly missed by himself and the citizens of Vienna, but he is very happy for the citizens of Wood County.

Stephens became Vienna's police chief in 2005, when his predecessor, Gary Deem, was appointed to a vacancy on the county commission. He has been with the department for 28 years.
