For those who ask the question...what does this have to do with creating jobs?...much of the $3,750,000 going to the Mid-Ohio Valley health department...will go toward providing more teachers to instruct children on being healthy.

"It's going to be seven or eight for Wood County, and one for each of the other counties," says the health department's executive director, Dick Wittberg. "Ritchie is talking about going another way, but that's all open for negotiation."

The main focus of this program is education...trying to convince youngsters and, for that matter, adults, that picking up the apple is a better option than picking up a candy bar.

"We can increase the access to fresh fruits and vegetables for children," Wittberg adds. "This will be going on in the elementary schools, and we'll be spending $35 per student to make that happen."

This represents most of the money going to the state of West Virginia, which has, fairly or not, the reputation of being the most unhealthy in the country.

"Over 400 communities, states and metro areas applied for this money," notes Joe Barker of the state health department. "44 were selected, and we're tickled to death to be one of them."

While construction is not part of the funding, planning for providing more locations such as riding and walking trails.

In all...$372 million is being provided for this program...to communities across the country.
