Walking like an Egyptian-- or more so living like an Egyptian was the theme for this evening as more than 250 people gathered, and many dressed the part, for The Parkersburg Art Center's "Night on the Nile."
Those attending enjoyed a "Golden Grapes Cocktail Hour," at the Blue Cross- Blue Shield Highmark Center with music, belly dancers, festive drinks, and hors d'oeuvres before journeying down Market Street to the Art Center for more Egyptian culture.
"And as they came from Highmark to the Art Center they were approach by many people that you might say came from Egypt just for the evening, several street merchants were talking to the vendors as they came up through," says the event chair, event planner from Crown Event Rentals, and a member of the Art Center's Board of Directors, Keith McClung.
Guests were greeted with food galore, 45 different food selections, seven plus caters, and over one-thousand deserts to choose from, but the night didn't end there, an Egyptian market place with hand made art and accessories and an auction surrounded by the elaborate desert table
"We're calling it 'The Valley of the Bling,' it's going to be a silent auction and so area merchants have donated everything from antique furniture to rare statues so it's all bling," explains Director of the Art Center Abby Hayhurst. "So at some point in the evening we're going to uncover the tomb and open the doors and people can go in and bid on their bling."
Organizers explain the evening was a fundraiser for the Parkersburg Art Center and say the support has been overwhelming.
"I mean the feedback has been tremendous so far, I mean the people have been commenting," says McClung. "Already what the even has meant to them. People have already asked me what the theme will be next year, I'm not there yet... but we'll figure something out."
Enjoying an Egyptian Extravaganza....not on the Nile....but right here in The Mid-Ohio Valley.
