Tuesday, we presented the Jan Dils Golden Apple Award to Pre-Kindergarten teacher Judy Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson has been working with children for about 12 years.
A parent nominated her for making the transition easy for the students and the parents, and keeping them involved in the learning process.
Mrs. Johnson was surprised with the award, but says the real reward to her job, is watching her students learn to interact with each other.
"I am so overwhelmed! I feel like this is what teachers do. And it is just so nice that people recognize the love that you have for the kids. Because, you know, I truly do think we love them and they become a part of our family. This little classroom is a family. It's just very rewarding to know you are a part of their life and you helped make their transition into school, smoother."
Mrs. Johnson also says it's a team effort.
"I feel like any teacher in this building would be worthy of this award because they all do such a wonderful job. I feel very happy to be at Waverly Elementary. i think it's a wonderful school! It's a small community school, we have great parent support, and it's just a great place to teach," she says.
Congratulations Mrs. Johnson!
