An historic and unique bookstore in Parkersburg remains closed after the owner died this spring.
Becky Farnsworth, a stepdaughter of the late owner Joe Sakach said the future of Trans Allegheny Books in the former Carnegie Library building is uncertain.
She said currently the business is tied up in the estate and nothing has been decided. The trustee, Michael
Sakach, apparently lives out of state and she said the will has not been probated.
Steve Nicely, president of the Greater Parkersburg Convention and Visitors Bureau said that it has been a tourist attraction.
"The building has a lot of architectural features that just make it very unique. They just don't build buildings like that anymore and so people would come not to just look at the books but also to look at the building as well," he said.
Andrew Carnegie donated the structure which was built in 1905. The building served as the public library until the new Parkersburg/ Wood County Library opened in 1976 on Emerson Avenue, according to Nicely.
This structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
