Patrolling on a holiday weekend may not sound like much fun, but for area deputies its a job which must be done.

"The big thing today (Saturday) is the guys are hitting the housing developments because there is a lot of activity with cookouts. Basically just being seen, so people know if they have a problem we are there, " said Lt. Randy Stackpole with the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Being seen isn't difficult this weekend for the Washington County Sheriff's Deputies not only are they out on the road, but also at the Washington County Fair.

A federal grant has provided funding for deputies to be out surveying the county Friday, Saturday and Sunday to look for impaired drivers.

Lt. Stackpole said it's considered over time for the deputies.

Across the river in Wood County, deputies are also making their presence known with the help of grants.

"One is strictly enforcement of DUI patrols the other one is high visibility grant. We are out here trying to find particular mile posts in the county that have a high crash rate, " said B.A. Pickens with the Wood County Sheriff's Office.

Pickens said to stay safe keep it simple. "Have a designated driver and click it or ticket. Stay buckled up."
