Parkersburg fire and police officers are investigating the latest in a string of vacant house fires near Lynn and Wood Streets.

Wednesday a vacant house on the 700 block of Wood Street apparently caught fire for the third time this month.

Captain Tim Flinn said that fire and the blaze September 5 were intentionally set.

He said the second fire September 6th has been ruled undetermined because it may have been a rekindle from the first blaze.

Also on August 20 there investigators said there was a vacant house fire nearby on the 900 block of Lynn Street and another vacant house fire September 11 on the 800 block.

He said both of these fires were intentionally set as well.

Captain Flinn said the fires have not been officially connected, but he has not ruled it out as a possibility.

If you have any information, you're asked to call the fire department at 304-424-8522.

"What people can do is look around make sure you don't leave items of opportunity out for people wanting to cause some type of mischief or keep lawn mowers and your gases and stuff stored properly where people can't get to it," said Parkersburg Fire Chief Eric Chichester.

Parkersburg firefighters and police have been investigating a vacant house fire on Wood Street.

Investigator Jason Matthews said a neighbor saw smoke on the 700 block of Wood Street which is near the Lynn Street intersection and called 911 around 11:20 a.m. Sunday.

According to Matthews the fire started outside the house by a back window. The cause of the fire was undetermined Sunday evening but Matthews said it does not appear to be electrical.

He said officers were waiting to talk to witnesses. The area where it started was outside the kitchen which was full of tires.

Matthews said another vacant house caught fire nearby on the 900 block of Lynn Street about two weeks ago.

It also started outside the house but Matthews said it is too early to tell if the fires are related.
