Vienna City Council members will be reviewing a recent proposal from the police chief to restructure the rankings of the police department.
Mayor David Nohe said in the finance meeting Wednesday morning Chief George Young recommended there be a supervisor on each shift. This would mean two patrolmen would be promoted to the rank of Sergeant to cover all shifts.
In order to do this, Mayor Nohe said, Young would remain a Lieutenant instead of moving up to Captain (like other chiefs have) so that money would go towards promoting the patrolmen.
There would still be 17 police officers. Nohe said the department is not looking to add another officer after Chief Steve Stephens retired.
