Eight Monongalia County tax office employees have claimed a winning Powerball ticket worth $276.3 million.
The winners were introduced at a news conference Tuesday at the West Virginia Lottery's headquarters in Charleston.
The eight winners opted to take the $139 million cash payout option. That means each of the eight winners will receive a little over 17.4 million dollars.
The winning ticket for last Saturday's drawing was sold at Paula's of Westover, a video poker bar in Westover, across the Monongahela River from Morgantown. The store received a check for $100,000 dollars for selling the winning ticket. The store said it would donate part of its proceeds to WVU's Children's Hospital in Morgantown.
The Monongalia County tax office has eleven employees, but only eight contributed money to purchase tickets: Chief Tax Deputy Linda Fominko, Crystal Magro, Allecia Priore, Andrea Grey, Amanda Pugh, Judith Gapen, Paula Pride and Jessica Dotson.
The ticket was the seventh sold in West Virginia to win a Powerball jackpot and was the seventh-largest win in Powerball history.
The state of West Virginia received $9,062,412.50 in taxes from the winning Powerball ticket.
