Athens, Ohio (AP) -- Election officials in Southern Ohio flipped a coin to break a tie in a local election.
Thursday's official ballot count in the Democratic Primary for the Athens County Commissioner's race showed two candidates each receiving 2,854 votes.
The County Board of Elections chose the coin-flip as the decider, with County Prosecutor C. David Warren doing the flipping.
Jim Pancake of Nelsonville won by calling "heads," beating out Charlie Adkins. Because of the tie, however, a required recount will be held April 5th.
If Pancake prevails there, he'll go on to face Republican Larry Payne in the General Election.
