I can't explain what happened here. I've known Jason since we were children growing up together, often sharing many vacations / weekends together, boy scout camp fires & hikes. As often happens, over many years, friends drift apart and I'm now living on the other side of the country. The Jason I remember used to love to laugh and would do anything to get you to laugh. It's important that you understand that because he is a real person. Granted the trouble we got into was nothing more than what average kids got themselves into at the time. There was always a matter of fun involved no matter what we did. If you needed it Jason would give you the shirt off his back and smile about it. I can only hope whatever time he does do in jail is productive and helpful to him. My prayers are with the entire family, they have always been in my heart, and always will be.

cool...i know this is a little late to say this but, he is my DAD! do you people understand how hard it is to read this stuff? he is not all as bad as you people know. you dont know anything! sure, he tried to shoot someone but he didnt know what he was doing. i think you people need to read what you write before you post it cause you never know who is reading it...its not only the police officers family that is having a hard time... we are too! you people need to hut your mouths and think bout what you are saying bout someone you dont even know!

But this guy that is now behind bars also knows where my phone in the Garage is. Who knows he could have been here. That the thing, they was not sure and he knows all of us that lives in this small area on County Road 9. I had seen him in and out of my Driveway 20 times that day. I guess Iam off but to me anyone who lived in the area the sheriff had block of should have been told about what was going on or at least check on as they walk by our houses in my yard. I was told once by a deputy that my home was check. but when asking my brother he said no one stopped by. They also has time to goto the neighbors garage and shut the power of in it to turn out the dusk to dawn light, which also turn off their 2 deep frezers. To me that braking a entering they did not ask to go in that person garage to do that. maybe you should have been here and see what we went through. Iam not saying that they didn't do their jobs, i just think something could have been handled diffrent. But,Iam not a Sheriff

Where to start? Should I "Nit Pick" at the spelling errors first? Eh, I think I'd rather start with the "Jason is not trash" comment, sure he is, look at what he's done. Also I would like for those who blame this on the Devil, or the police dept. to check out the report on Mr. Berecz prior record. Once a loser always a loser. As for Jeremy's comment. When someone reports an incident I'm sure the police dept. understand WHERE things are taking place so I'm sure they are in a hurry to defuse the situation rather then stopping to make sure that everyone who is not directly involved answers their phone. Now back to the "trash" am I the only one that thinks they saw him in "Wrong Turn" Or was it "Hills Have Eyes"? I can't remember.

My prayers are with Scott & his family. I worked with Scott at SMCC and I know he is strong enough to pull through this situation. God Bless you Scott and Family!!

He sounds like a real winner with his past record, going back to 2000. This moron should spend a long time behind bars.

What a waste for a human. Throw the book at this guy. Again I say what a waste for a human. Thank God Scott is going to be OK! We need more people like Scott, who put it (life) on the line every day. I would like to say THANK YOU officer Parks.

Iam proud of law enforcement too, but when I only live two houses down the road not even a 1/4 of a mile. As I was home when this all started. my brother was also home with his Girlfriend. I rode down the road with my aunt. When i tryed to contact my brother at home the phone went straight to the machine. We alerted the Officers that we could not reach them and they said they look in to it. Well did they No they didn;t. They did even stop on their way up to this person house to check on resident that was still in their homes. I think they would be looking out for the safety of those people. I know i was well cared for down the road but what about those people at home he could have came in to those homes. but they was not the concern of the law enforcement officers. they said it was not their Job to worried about those people.

To my friend & formal co-worker, I wish you a very speedy recovery. Thank goodness you had all that training from the Marines and the Sheriffs Office, so you could get to safety. As for the person whom did this unspeakable action, you will be judged by the American People, then your final judgement form the good Lord above.

hey Howard, Parkersburg is not the same as this story, maybe you should take their test and become a detective and solve it all.

Scott is my 1st cousin and this morning I heard the news about him being shot. I cried for awhile then heard he was going to be fine. I get sick to my stomac every time I see that guys face. Not only is Scott a great cousin, he's a great father to his kids and provider for his wife. God was really watching over him last night and I and his family are very grateful. He has made us all proud. Not only is he a Police Veteran he has served our Country during times of War. God Bless him and All who protect and serve!

It is just a good thing the police got him before I did. My daughter was there when this all happened and he shot at her to.

We never know what might happen in our own community. And it doesn't appear that things will get any better. The only thing we can do is pray and not let up, but not for ourselves but for people like Berecz, and this Angela from Beverly who obviously with her attitude is headed in the same direction. MAY THE LORD BE WITH THEM AND SHOW THEM THE WAY!!!!!!!
