Now that it's April, construction is underway on roads and bridges across the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Some of Washington County's major projects include the continuing of the widening project on State Route 7 in Marietta.
Stephanie Filson of the Ohio Department of Transportation said safety for drivers and workers is always a concern.
"I don't believe there's been a season since I've worked here where we've had no accident in the work zone within our 9 county district, fortunately we've seen a reduction in many places and I believe Washington County is one of them," said Filson, a public information officer for ODOT District 10.
Some of the major projects for Washington County this construction season are:
-Four-lane resurfacing that includes 4 miles of SR 7 beginning just north of the junction of TR 358 (Lockhart Road).
-Two-lane resurfacing that includes 7.5 miles of SR 7, 8 miles of SR 26 and 0.4 miles of SR 807.
-Landslide repair located just south of the junction of TR 135.
According to the West Virginia Department of Transportation, Division of Highways, the following work is expected:
-Construct the Blennerhassett Island Bridge
-Construct the River Hill Overpass Bridge on Co. Rd. 34/4
-Bridge Replacement on Co. Rd. 11 (Robin Hood Road)
- Bridge Repair on the I-77 Bridge over U.S. Rte. 50
- Resurfacing on U.S. Rte. 50 from Dallison to Sand Hill Roads
-Resurfacing WV Route 31 on Ogden-Williamstown Road from WV Route 2 towards Williamstown
-Resurfacing WV Route 14 on Vienna-Boaz Roads North of Vienna
-Landslide Repair north on Emerson Avenue at the Willard Road intersection
These are just some of the projects scheduled in both Wood and Washington Counties from now through the fall. Filson said the construction season usually ranges from April through mid-October depending on the weather.
