The legendary steam boat, The Delta Queen, docked in Marietta with dozens of passengers ready to tour the Valley, some for a special occasion.

"We're celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary, so it's a special trip and a special boat," says Joan Lawrence, Delta Queen Passenger.

It should be a pleasant trip, but most of the passengers know that this could be their last ride on the Delta Queen.

"I know it's coming to the end, but I hope it doesn't happen. I've been wanting to do this for a long time," says Charles Matts, Delta Queen Passenger.

It's a bitter sweet journey for many, it could be the steam boat's last season, since the wooden structure doesn't comply with new standards according to the Safety at Sea Act.

"As it stands right now, the ship requires an exemption from certain safety laws in order to stay in operation, that exemption expires November 1st of this year. There are efforts underway in Congress to get an extension," says Roger Hilligonn, First Mate on the Delta Queen.

If the legislature doesn't pass, the historic boat will have to dock for good, But it could also be a detriment to the areas economy.

"They boarded the trolley car this morning, some of the passengers stroll up Front Street and visit the shops and the local restaurants," says .Charlotte Keim, President of the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce:

It would be the end to a legend that brings so many joy.

"it's full of people that just really love the river, we can't let go of these special things," says Joan Lawrence, Delta Queen Passenger: .

"You don't have to worry about cell phones, television, radio, or anything, you just sit back and relax and enjoy the scenery," says Ray Stewart, Delta Queen Passenger:

I remember as a young child sitting on a bench on the river bank with my grandmother in Wellsville Ohio waiting for the Delta Queen to go down the river! Then I took my children through the years to see it! It was a beautiful sight and the music was very delightful..I hope something can save The Delta Queen!
