A Parkersburg woman who's children tested positive for drugs over the weekend was arraigned Tuesday morning.

30-year-old Michele Fleming was arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court.

She is charged with 2 counts of felony child neglect as well as possession of a controlled substance.

According to the criminal complaint Fleming took her 5-year-old child to the hospital on Sunday when the child did not wake up from a nap.

At the hospital the 5 year old tested positive for cocaine and was transported to a Charleston hospital in critical condition.

West Virginia State Police said on Wednesday that the child's condition has steadily improved since Sunday. Officials say the 5-year-old is showing some responses and improving daily.

Fleming's 7-year-old child later tested positive for cocaine as well.

Fleming is currently in the North Central Regional Jail on $105,0000 bond.

there is no excuse for this kind of behavior. although i would love to know how the cocaine got into the childrens system. the children should be placed with the maternal grandparents while michele serves her time and then while she attends drug rehab. i really thought she would have grown up by now. she should have taken her childrens lives more seriously.

I know this woman as well, and I am shocked that this has happened.I am sure there is more to the story, but in any case she put the children in that situation, to me she is guilty of neglect.I also know that the children have a good family that loves them dearly, and that is who should take care of the children. You can not punish the family for her mistakes.I pray every night for the girls and the family. And i wish a healthy recovery for them all.

Terry of Parkersburg - what is an opion? If the drugs were in her house she is guilty and needs to go to jail.

I know this woman as well. I cant say that im very surprised. She is a good person at heart, but she made a HUGE mistake. I think she has a problem and her children need to be aprt from her until she is a fit mother.

this is very sick story i was taken from my parents for less reasons then that and if she gets away with this then its really a messed up world.

What happened to "innocent until proven guilty". I agree that if she did do something wrong she needs to be punished, but why not wait to find out the whole story.

I know this lady as well and there has to be more to the story. I pray for the children and hope that we get an update.

There is really no excuse for people behaving this way and getting away with it. I also hope these children are placed in a safe, happy, and loving home where they never have to see that woman again. She is not a mother she probably just used her kids to get benefits from the state because in all reality that is the kind of world we live in. If the state gives her children back to her that is just showing everyone else what they can get away with and there is your answer about what kind of world we live in.

I am a mother of six I just cant imagine even if I had a drug problem of my own how I could do that to my children Parents at that early age is all children have to trust. Then we wonder why the juvinile detention centers are full and why our younger generation has a lack of cofidence in theirselves. Something needs to be done about these drugs on our streets.

Lock the crack head up for life. She should never see her children again. How sad for the children, hopefully they will find a loving home where there are no drugs.

I know this woman...and have for many years. I cannot beleive this has happened. There has to be more to the story....and I'd like to know how the 5 year old is doing now. I hope that there is an update on her condition.

I agree something needs to be done with her but she will plea some sort of mental disorder get a slap on the wrist and more than likely do it again. And the kids are the ones who have to pay for it.

Hope they do something about this. A coulpe of months ago there was a Marietta man aressted for driving around smoking crack with his son in the car. When is this going to stop. Someone needs to make examples out of these worthless parents!!!

This lady should be locked up for life and never to see the light of day or her children again. What a sick world that we live in. Hopefully the state will put these two children in good, safe homes.
