You might remember the 1977 movie, "Smokey and The Bandit." Well gas prices aren't stopping many enthusiasts from driving across the country to celebrate one of the stars in the movie, the 1977 Special Edition Pontiac Trans Am Burt Reynolds drove in it.
People from as far as New Mexico and Minnesota drove about 35 Pontiac Trans Ams and other models into Parkersburg Tuesday afternoon.
They started in Columbus, OH and are on their way to Braselton GA.
It's called "The Bandit Run" and it's the second year for the event.
They were headed to Charleston, WV Tuesday night and planned to pick up more cars along the way in cities along the way.
They'll end up at the YearOne Experience car show in Georgia. The show runs this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Greg Vassar a Burnsville, MN resident worked at a movie theater when the movie first came out in 1977.
"So I've seen the movie probably 50 times within two weeks," said Vassar.
"I always wanted the car (1977 Pontiac Trans Am) and I finally have it now," said Vassar.
"It's like a free spirit run you know we're not running a race, we're not trying to deliver some boot leg beer, we're just really enjoying each other and talking on the CB radio and stopping at places like this. It's great,we really enjoyed it," said Tyler Hambrick, a Newnan, GA resident.
They plan to arrive in Georgia Thursday night and then tour the sites where the movie was filmed in Jonesboro Friday.
Restore a Muscle Car and YearOne, both hot rod car parts businesses, sponsored this event.
