A Pennsylvania judge sentenced a man convicted of brutally murdering a Wood County teen to life plus one to two more years in prison Wednesday.
In February a Pittsburgh jury found James Baldwin guilty of first degree murder and guilty of abuse of a corpse for the death of Brendon Glen-David Martin.
Officials say Baldwin admitted to stabbing and cutting up his 19-year-old' roommate's body in 2006. May 14th would have been Martin's 21st birthday.
Martin's parents say Judge Kathleen Durkin asked Baldwin in the courtroom if he had any comment Wednesday.
"And she kept asking him is there anything you want to say. He said no. So he showed no remorse. He did not say he was sorry," said Martin's mother, Sarah Memel.
"I requested that the mutilation of a corpse charge be made consecutive rather than concurrent," said Craig Martin, Martin's father.
Judge Durkin granted his request and Baldwin will have to serve life in prison for first degree murder plus one to two years more for abuse of a corpse.
Baldwin's attorney, Kevin Abramovitz, says his client plans to appeal.
Memel says her mission is to talk with students on college campuses about not taking someone's name off a bulletin board to room with.
This is why her son met and roomed with Baldwin while he was in college in Pittsburgh. She's also helping organize a local Parents of Murdered Children chapter. In addition she sponsors a scholarship for two 4-H members to go to camp in honor of Martin who was active in it.
