Two local groups came together Friday morning to honor one of the Mid-Ohio Valley's most influential Revolutionary War Generals.

General Rufus Putnam was honored Friday at the Mound Cemetery in Marietta by the Grand Lodge of Ohio and the American Union Lodge Number 1 for being on of Marietta's Founding Fathers.

Putnam's ceremony was done in part by the Masonic Lodge because he made an enormous contribution to Masonry he was the first Grand Master of Masons in Ohio.

Officials unveiled a plaque dedicated to Putnam's life as hundreds of folks looked on.

I was actually there during the dedication, and there were more than just two groups coming together to honor Rufus Putnam. It was such a great ceremony and every organization that came together to honor him should be recognized as well. There was the Freemasons of Ohio which includes several organizations, Harmar Lodge (which was having a ceremony after that one to dedicate there lodge and rename it Rufus Putnam Lodge), American Union Lodge, Eastern Star, Shriners, Scotish Rites, Knights Templar, Sons and Saughters of the American Revolution. Rufus Putnams' history is really interesting, and is not as well known as it should be in our area. Our young people should learn a little more about our areas history as well as other history.
