Flights from the Mid-Ohio Valley to the Washington Dulles airport are likely to continue.
Wednesday morning the airport board decided to recommend to continue air service to the Virginia airport with Colgan Air.
The other option would have been flights to Cleveland, Ohio with Gulfstream Air, a relatively new player in the industry.
Airport Manager Terry Moore says:
"We can't project tomorrow because there's so much turbulence in the aviation industry right now that anything we decide. Just like when we decided Colgan last year, that was absolutely a good call on your part, but who knew that they would be bought by Pinnacle and that we would switch from Pittsburgh. And look at all those changes that occurred since we chose that server last year. The good thing was there were 3 bidders, and only the one we bid on was the only survivor."
The recommendation from the board will now go to the Federal Department of Transportation for approval.
The airport authority is asking the DOT for a shorter contract length than usual with Colgan.
They're hoping to revisit bids from competitors once Gulfstream Air is more established with flights in the Northeast United States.
