I just want to say as a survivor of dv that this poor girl changed her story to cops out of fear! The fact is abusers emotionally batter their victims into submission as well as beating them!Preying on low self esteem and reinforcing years of emotional abuse with more is one way these people get their power. To say that this girl must like the abuse is horrible.Her life wasn't the only one threatened...they had children, too!No one seems to understand the dynamics in an abusive relationship...including Sheriff Mincks.To put blame on this girl is wrong.His interview made it sound like she beat him and it was just as much her fault this happened to her. Well sheriff needs domestic violence sensitivity training immediately! My ex tried to break my neck but failed, but i still felt i had to lie to cops to protect myself and my children! That's how powerful an abuser can be! Take notice people! Don't let this young mothers death be for nothing...change the penalties now! need consequences!

Domestic Violence is taken seriously in West Virginia and Ohio with advocates and law enforcement. My Daughter is was in a very bad relationship for 8 years and yes she kept running back to the abuser. WHERE we are Lacking is the so called justice system. the prosecutors cut deals the judges are not and will not give the Maximum sentance allowed by law. they let the abuser continue to break their protection orders with slaps on the wrists.So the Victim feels they have no choice but to go back to the Abuser or continue to get harassed, stalked and beaten down until they feel worthless Or even worse the will eventually they will be Murdered as we have seen recently in Washington County and also in West Virginia.Its Time We All Took Action Vote Out The Public officals that REFUSE to ENFORCE the Laws to their Full extent.

Domestic Violence is never taken serious. I know in West Virginia anyway, a lot of people consider it a mutual problem putting the blame on the victim. I do not care what is involved, whether its alcohol, drugs or whatever, a man should never put his hands on a woman and putting the blame on the victim only makes the man have more control and he is never held accountable for his actions.

Both WV and OH have wonderful programs and resources for DV Victims and they dont get half the support and thanks they deserve!
