Some Telemarketers Losing Jobs In Parkersburg

Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- Nearly 200 West Virginians are out of work because of layoffs at a Parkersburg telemarketing company and the shutdown of a call center in South Charleston.
Dialamerica Marketing, based in Mahwah, N.J., closed its South Charleston office this week.
Corporate headquarters confirmed the closing Friday but won't comment further.
Meanwhile, 30 workers have been laid off from 1-2-1 direct response in Parkersburg.
The Philadelphia-based company cites a downturn in the economy but says people could be rehired this fall.
President Stuart Discount says the layoffs occurred in Parkersburg because it's easier to rehire there than in the smaller town of Weston, where 1-2-1 also has an office.
Discount says there are no plans to pull out of Parkersburg.
