None of you know how awefull school lunches are. I AM a student who eats the BOE lunches. I think that Beverly Blough needs to take her own advice. I dont think that she eats carrot sticks and broccoli all the time. And whats wrong with ketchup?! last time i heard it's made from tomatoes! arent those healthy? And who cares what you people think we should eat on our salads? WHATS SO WRONG WITH RANCH DRESSING! i hate italian dressing. And another thing. I'm tired of hearing what you guys ate "in the day." You all think your lunches were all bad. Your foods were homemade and prepaired in the lunchroom. By the cooks. Not some factory in some other state and shipped to wood county. And the peanut butter deal. Their trying to ban kids from bringing peanut butter sandwhiches because someone might be allergic to it. Supposeable it's smell "floats in the air." That is the most stupidest thing I've ever heard. I'm tired of people being offended by everything and food. -A BOE Student.

The new standards for nutrition are for the betterment of each student. Did you know that the pizza's served are low fat and whole grain? School lunch has changed over the years. Some counties make the salad dressings from scratch, cakes and cookies are made from scratch, and only low fat milk is served. I actually worry about my sons that they are of low weight and need additional calories. Seems like the more we improve at home the more accepting the kids will be at school. I think that the schools do a wonderful job feeding our children and we should try to think about our schools in a more positive light. I was always told everything in moderation when it comes to nutrition. I myself can not pack a lunch cheaper and more healthy than a hot school lunch even if it's a healthier piece of pizza. Have you looked at the cost of banana's?

You are kidding me aren't you? Pre-packaged chips are nutritional??!! I have never heard that adjective used to describe chips. And anyone who thinks that pre-packaged foods are good for you or cheaper to serve is also delusional. What is this world coming to when even our children's school meals are used as a source of income for someone. CHIPS! Really, can't you do better than that.

If that's the case they are just cutting cost not trying to make lunches healthier!Choclate milk is not terrible and at least it's not soda and ketchup is an american mainstay.Now salad dressing I would like to see less kids drowning everything in ranch dressing to eat it. When I attended school we had salad occassionally but it already had an Italian like house dressing mixed into it and I'd have to say it wasn't bad. I hope Jennifer's source was confused considering their example was individual chips I'd say she was.That's what I felt was so humorous why not apples or fruit as an example? Or are they not allowed because you can't purchase fresh fruit individually wrapped?

I want to see a listing of what's allowed and what's not allowed. I've heard rumors that things like chocolate milk, ketchup and salad dressing are being banned. And if you DO send a cold lunch it falls under the same rules as hot lunch. I wasn't able to make the meeting last night, but I want more details!

I encourage parents to pack their children's lunches. The food served by these schools has little to no nutritional value. Wood County Schools receives over $1,000 per child in addition to reimbursement for lunch costs for students who apply (regardless of whether they actually eat the lunches)from the free/reduced state lunch program. The "closed campus" lunches serves as another way for schools to make profit.

anonymous some people don't have the stuff at home. I have been trying to help my daughter eat healthier for 2yrs now nothing "junk food" is in my house but she goes to school and gets it there through fundraiser sells and vending machines she also brings it home into my house from those vending machines. The problem is there is no need to offer that stuff at school. When we were kids we never had vending machines dispensing cookies and candy. No one found it necessary to have snacks all the time.We had breakfast lunch and dinner maybe a snack or treat occasionally. As parents it is just as much our responsibility as it is the schools to educate our children, the problem is the school is undermining us by providing the junk period!

Pre-packaged food? That's the most unhealthy of all foods and expensive! Let's get rid of school fundraisers that sell candy eliminate the junk food machines completely.Let's teach our kids to read nutrition labels and what they really mean and eliminate any snacks that contain high fructose corn syrup as one of their main ingredients.As a parent I have eliminated my daughter junk food intake by half by not having the foods available to her, trouble is for 2yrs she just goes to school and buys it. Frustrating!

Why doesn't the BOE just do away with vending machines and halloween parties. The kids are still going to bring the junk in their lunches and eat the junk as soon as they walk in the house after school. The next thing you know, they will ban all of the items that are sold in the concession stands at a Friday night football game. Oh...and they keep using the word "prepackaged food". That is the only food that is served in the school cafeterias today. They have done away with the conventional oven and stove. Now stuff is heated up in a convection oven.
