The regular Wednesday night service at the Full Gospel Church in Christ went on as usual.

But a lot has changed since last Sunday's services.

A cleanup was completed Wednesday morning, but traces of an incident where vandals somehow entered the church and caused thousands of dollars of damage remain.

A smashed tape deck. Broken stained glass windows. And a dent in the wall right below the words "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself". And the would-be vandals didn't stop there.

"They broke all our candles we had for communion, and broke the cross we had for the communion, and scattered the material we had on the podium all over the church," said Pastor Walter D. Minney.

What Pastor Minney says is more of a mystery is how the individual or individuals got into the church, which is normally secured after services.

"There's no forced entry we can see anyplace in the doors or the windows," he said. "I don't really know how they got in here. They checked the door; there was no forced entry."

Much of the damage here involved broken glass, from the stained glass windows surrounding the church, to the plaques that hung on the bookcase.

A resident who lives near the church declined to go on camera, but told us crime is a recurring problem in this Swann Street neighborhood.

"People don't realize or know what they do until it's all over," Pastor Minney told us. And somewhere along the line, I feel the power of God will bring conviction on them somewhere along the line. And they'll repent or know what they've done, and realize it's something wrong they've done."

Parkersburg City Police tell us there are no suspects.

Anyone who has any information about the incident can call the department's main number, 304-424-8444.
