Charleston, W.V. (AP) -- The former President and Chief Executive of a Parkersburg Company Created to provide broadband internet service to rural areas is accused of misappropriating millions of dollars.

Heidi C. Laughery was indicted Wednesday on federal charges of mail fraud, theft from an organization receiving federal funds, money laundering conspiracy and engaging in an illegal money transaction.

Laughery is accused of conspiring with others to embezzle from Sequelle Communications Alliance, which she ran from September 2001 to March 2005.

The alleged scheme involved grant and loan money from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council, United Bank and the states of West Virginia and Ohio.

A phone listing for Laughery could not be found. Federal authorities said they do not know her location.

How can the Feds not know where she is. Doing a simple internet search tells me she is in Meadville, PA

If any of the banks and government agencies had done a simple background check on her before disbursing all the funds (some of which were taxpayer dollars) it would have been obvious she was a crook. Whatever happened to due dilligence? The people disbursing the funds were idiots!

She definitely was a snake in the grass in Marietta. She took public funds and flung them around at people and thought she was somebody important. She ran off a very good swim coach in Marietta. No doubt used public funds to bring another coach in with these funds under the table and the Marietta 'y' director as well as others knew about it, and looked the other way. Last I heard she was living in Columbus,Ohio. Probably still living off the funds she swindled the government, as well as others out of. Of course, some people in Marietta will look the other way and try to say she tried to do some good for the community. Yeah, right. I could too, if I had all the money she was promising and giving out. Talk about your own personal slush fund. Hopefully the courts will catch her and put her away in prison this time for good, and throw away the key!!!

She paid for the Marietta YMCA swim coach out of her pocket under the table. The director knew it and looked the other way.
