The Wood County Sheriff's son has been sentenced after authorities say he fraudulently used a county credit card.
Brian Merritt Was sentenced Wednesday on 5 total counts of fraudulent use of an access device, also known as a credit card, and 2 counts of attempted fraudulent use of an access device.
In 2007 authorities said Merritt used his father's county credit card to make hundreds of dollars worth of purchases.
He was sentenced to 1-10 years in prison with credit for 322 days on 3 counts of fraudulent use of an access device. Also 1-10 years in prison with no days credit for 2 additional counts of fraudulent use of an access device. Also 1-3 years in prison for 2 counts of attempted fraudulent use of an access device with no days credit.
All the sentences will be served concurrently with the 1-3 years in prison being served first. The other sentences will be suspended for 5 years supervised probation.
Merritt's attorney's office says Merritt will be behind bars for one year and then he'll have the possibility of parole. Once he is out of jail he will be under 5 years supervised probation.
Merritt must also pay back nearly $700 in court costs and $2,000 in court fees.
