In West Virginia and Ohio, it's not illegal for adults to ride in the bed of a pickup truck but law enforcement officials say this doesn't mean it's not dangerous.

Ohio State Highway Patrol officers say anyone sixteen years old or older can ride in the back of a pickup truck but if you're under sixteen years old, you can only ride in it if it's going under 25 miles an hour.

However it's against the law to sit up on the sides of the bed of the truck or to ride in it with the tailgate down.

"Of course we don't recommend anyone ride in a vehicle without using occupant restraints and in the bed of a truck with no seating or occupant restraints it's that much more dangerous," said Sgt. Matt Boyd of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

In West Virginia it's also not illegal to ride in the back of a pickup truck but it is illegal to ride on the running boards.
