Tuesday's accident involving a Marietta school bus and a vehicle with teenage occupants emphasizes restrictions on newly-licensed teenage drivers.
No one in the bus was injured in the collision, but five of the occupants of the P.T. Cruiser which collided with the bus, suffered injuries.
The Ohio Highway Patrol reminds teenage motorists that probationary license holders under the age of 17 are not permitted to drive a motor vehicle with more than one person who is not a family member as a passenger in that vehicle.
"There are two exceptions to that rule," says Trooper Stephen Rogers of the Marietta post. "To and from school activity, and to and from work. If it's for work, the students is to have written documentation form their employer, stating they are driving for work reasons."
Another exception is a passenger who is the driver's parent, guardian or legal custodian.
The Highway Patrol cites national studies stating that the risk of a fatal crash among teen drivers increases with each passenger in the vehicle.
