A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the suspect who was shot by a police officer in Parkersburg Thursday.
Police say John Michael Sadler Jr. called 911 Thursday morning threatening to kill himself and any officers who would come to his home near 25th Street and Lincoln Avenue.
Police say he had a loaded shot gun, 7 millimeter rifle and a large knife with him.
Officers set up a perimeter and the SWAT team and negotiators responded.
Detective Decker Moody said after negotiators tried to speak with Sadler, he hung up the phone and started walking down 25th Street with the weapons.
Detective Moody said Sadler walked in the area Sergeant Jay Hart was manning. He said when Sgt. Hart asked Sadler to put down the weapons, Sadler pointed the shot gun at Sgt. Hart.
That's when Sgt. Hart allegedly raised his gun and shot Sadler in the upper torso.
Police said Sadler is in stable condition in the hospital Friday evening and a warrant's been issued for his arrest for wanton endangerment with a firearm.
It will be served after he's out of the hospital.
Police Chief Gerald Board said Sgt. Hart is on administrative leave temporarily and he doesn't see why he wouldn't return.
The Parkersburg Police Department along with the Wood County Prosecutor's office asked Vienna Police and the Wood County Sheriff's Department are conducting an investigation.
Plus Parkersburg Police are doing an internal investigation as well.
The case will go to the Wood County Prosecutor's Office that will decide whether it will go before the Grand Jury.
