Students at Parkersburg High School resumed a normal schedule Monday afternoon, following a morning bomb threat targeting PHS that was called into the Wood County 911 Center.
Following the evacuation of PHS Monday, police with at least one bomb-sniffing dog swept the Field House. Once it was declared safe, students were allowed into the Field House where lunch was served.
A thorough search of the school was conducted.
Sue Woodward, Director of Public Relations for Wood County Board of Education, told WTAP-TV at 1:25 pm Monday parents and legal guardians are NOT encouraged to pick up students from the school.
If parents and legal guardians insisted on picking up students, they first had to go to an information center established at the corner of 20th Street and Dudley Avenue. School authorities verified the identity of parents and guardians through picture IDs. Authorities then escorted students from school to the waiting parents and guardians.
The call to the Wood County 911 Center came in at 11:08 Monday morning. The caller, in a "disguised voice," told a dispatcher that there was a bomb at PHS.
No other Wood County schools received threats. Woodward said all county schools were put on "heightened alert" in case a copycat tried to call in another bomb threat.
