A handful of people in the area have not gotten their social security income checks.

The US Postal Service says they've received complaints from Ohio residents in Washington and Athens Counties who never got their checks.

The Postal Service is not sure where the checks are right now, but they say they are looking for them.

Postal Service officials say they are assuming the checks have just been misplaced in the mail stream and are hoping to locate them by Tuesday.

another goverment blunder...did you know the postal service can change your address and you not know of it till you don't get any mail at your real address....happened to me....my bills got behind...I chased down a couple of my bills and found out that those people had a wrong phone number for me so they sent my mail to that address....took a long time to straighten that mess out....

In the interest of accuracy, SSI stands for Supplemental Security Income.

This happens in Parkersburg, as well. The last time this happened I actually went to the post office as asked where they were and was told by a lady the checks were not mailed by Social Security. When I called S.S. the person I spoke with was actually irritated at the accusation of the postal employee and said it was ludicrous; they are mailed early. I am glad this story tells it correctly - a job very well done, WTAP! The last late delivery is the reason I went with Direct Deposit, finally. I can't help but wonder if some people will be getting late fees on any bills with money coming in late. I hope not.

Maybe that's a sign they shouldn't be receiving them in the first place...

This is very unfortunate that there are several people that have not received their social security checks, especially when this is possibly the only income they may receive for the month. However, I believe this may be a wake up call to change their social security payments to direct deposit and know that their money goes directly into the bank and they will never have to deal with the postal service again!!!
