GOP Vice-Presidential Candidate Palin's Stop Not a Rally in Marietta
WTAP News
Candidates campaigned through the Mid-Ohio Valley during the primaries and now the vice presidential candidates are set to make stops in the area tomorrow and into next week. A local McCain-Palin representative said Republican Vice-Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin's stop in Marietta Sunday is not a rally and is an unscheduled stop on Palin's way to a rally in St. Clairsville.

Republican Vice-Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin is set to stop in Marietta Sunday but the details of where she'll be or what time she'll be there has not been released.

Washington County McCain-Palin Campaign representative and the Washington County Republican Party Chair, Marilyn Aschraft, said there's been a lot of confusion about Governor Palin's visit.

Ashcraft said the stop here is an unscheduled coffee break on Governor Palin's way to a rally in Saint Clairsville, Ohio Sunday, Oct. 12.

Ashcraft said Palin will be traveling from Huntington to Gallipolis, Marietta, and then Saint Clairsville.

Since Palin's stop in Marietta will be brief and because of security reasons, Ashcraft said the time and location of Palin's visit are not being announced.

Ashcraft said the Marietta stop is not a rally and compares it to visits you may have seen on national TV where she shakes hands with residents who may just happen to be at an unannounced location like a family restaurant.

Still Palin's stop is getting the attention of many residents. A presidential or vice presidential candidate has not visited the Mid-Ohio Vally since the primary election.

"As you figure the national convention just ended September the 4th which is the latest that we've ever had a national convention so we didn't have anything to go on until the day before the convention started as to who the vice presidential candidate would be," said Ashcraft.

Washington County Democratic Party Chair Molly Varner said "all four candidates should be here so that the population, the voters, can take a good look at what they have to offer, how they say it, how sincerely they present themselves and then let the voters decide."

Doors open at the rally in St. Clairsville which is at Brush Run Park at Alderman Airport at 3:00 p.m. Ashcraft said Palin is scheduled to speak at 6 p.m.

Washington County is out of tickets to the event in St. Clairsville and Ashcraft said they called two neighboring counties that are also out of tickets.

We will not be able to carry live coverage of Governor Palin's visit as we have of the other candidates during the primary election because the McCain-Palin campaign has limited our access.
