Crowds of people gathered at spots across Washington County to catch a glimpse of the Republican Vice Presidential nominee. Some residents were luckier than others.

As Sarah Palin's motorcade drove through one part of Marietta many others, including a miniature Sarah Palin look alike were standing by.

"And then my mom said I should be Sarah Palin for Halloween and I agreed on that," said Elizabeth Sexton who waiting near Third and Greene Streets in Marietta.

Jill Carden said "I drove from my son's football game at Parkersburg High School stadium," to downtown Marietta to see Palin.

"I wanted her to autograph my hat but I know that's impossible," said Roger Gartrell who was waiting at the rest stop north of the Marietta exit on I-77.

The excitement was palpable among the crowd of about 75 people awaiting Sarah Palin's arrival at the rest stop but this soon turned to disappointment when the McCain-Palin buses drove by.

Some did not want to go on camera to talk about their reaction that Palin didn't stop at the rest area but some say this isn't going to change their vote.

"We just to get a glimpse of her motorcade was satisfying me just as much as not talking to her," said Roger Gartrell.

Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks said this rest stop along with Sweetapple Farm, the LaFayette Hotel, and Muskingum River Park were stops the campaign considered but Sheriff Mincks said Palin was running late to the rally in Saint Clairsville and only had time to stop at the farmer's market.

Sheriff Mincks said security detail traveling with the campaign tell him it's hard getting her in and out of a place quickly because of her popularity.

Molly Varner, chair of the Washington County Democratic Party said "voters have a lot of questions about the McCain economic policies as one issue and they didn't get those questions answered today."

Some Republicans even gave up their tickets to the Saint Clairsville rally in order to see her up close in Marietta and others camped out at the possible locations. Nearly a hundred people were gathered at Sweetapple Farm in Vincent.

Gartrell doesn't think this will be his only chance to get her autograph though.

"But maybe someday when she's running for president I'll try it again," Gartrell said.
