The smoking ban on restaurants has been in affect for over a month.
Some restaurants are adapting to the changes and some are not but it certainly is impacting restaurants profits.
The Mountaineer restaurant off of Route 50 is losing their weekend bar crowd.
Owner and manager Dave Short explains, "Were down about 16 percent on Friday and Saturday nights during the midnight shift because of the smoking ban."
Short says that with the down fail of the economy his sales have actually increased because of his reasonable menu but, Short hopes that the smoking crowd filters back in.
"They'll start coming back and recognize that they have to go outside and smoke."
Some restaurants can't change the ascetics of their restaurants for smokers but some are making stipulations like patios and buildings for smokers so they can feel welcome and comfortable in their
establishments.
Co-owner of J.P. Henry's Bre Hughes has made the changes to her restaurant to cater to smokers , "We just want people to be comfortable when they come here. They already have to walk outside but its only briefly walking through the patio to get to the smoking room. And we've had no complaints. Everybody has been real supportive of it."
J.P. Henry's has made a regulation size heated outdoor room filled with tables, chairs and a television.
One of JP. Henry's customers is happy she has a warm place she can go to light up.
Cathy Stanley says, "They thought ahead and some of them have tried to but the heating situation is so bad that you don't even want to go out. I do foresee that a lot of places are going to hurt from this."
Hughes tells me that not only has the new addition helped smokers but its helped every ones health. "My restaurant is cleaner were not emptying ashtrays every two seconds, which is very messy. So its actually turned out to be a good thing for J.P. Henry's we are fine with it."
These two restaurants both have been in business for over 20 years and certainly have seen a lot of new regulations.
Both restaurants are hoping to hold on to their smoking customers even if they have to step outside to do it.
