Washington State Community College held a We Are It for girls in 10th grade from Washington, Morgan and Meigs counties.
All across the state of Ohio the message is being sent out that women can and should get involved in careers with technology.
Assistant Professor from Washington State Community College Esther Salem says, "We know it's a field where there going to be job opportunites its a fast growing field. We know it's a kind of field where women can get good paying jobs that are more satisfying and challenging so we want to encourage as many young women as we can to get involved in these fields.
They also wanted the young women to take away a variety of new career opportunites.
Salem, "I imagine they were exposed to some things they may not have thought, sterotypically, what people who are involved information technology really do. So we try to expose them to fun ways to apply technology towards programming, graphic design and web page design.
Speaker Angela Benham would have liked to have recieved this message when she was a teen.
Benham, If I had someone that said you know you could enter that field you could work for NASA and build that next space shuttle. I think it would have been encouraging to have an idea that you could break into a mans world.
With men dominating the technology field 80 percent to women 20% it certainly is a big difference and the people of we are it have certianly noticied this and are giving young women the most important message of all.
Student Kaity thomas from Meigs high school said, "You can do anything you set your mind to. It's really opened my eyes like their really smart and dedicated they're just pushed for what they wanted and it's really amazing what they've been able to achieve."
Breaking the glass cieling through technology for young women to look up to.
