The Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport is trying to get the word out...that its air fares are competitive with those in other cities.

Airport Manager Terry Moore Thursday presented to the county commission...data from travel websites offering air fares which are close to, or even less than, fares from cities such as Charleston or even Columbus.

"I actually encourage people to look at united.com, because they don't charge you a service fee on that particular site, so the prices are actually lower," Moore says. "We'd also like to emphasize, parking at the airport is free now, so the prices are lower than if you go to some of the places where you have to pay for parking."

The airport plans to publicize those deals in future print advertisements.

We also have a link available to that flight information through the airport's own web page...just click on the "Hot Button".

Instead of raising taxes to support the airport, we should close Mountwood Park and use that money for the airport. We have spent $20 million so far at Mountwood, apparently to benefit just a few people and a out-of-state lumber company, and we have darn little to show for it.

I just checked a flight from PKB to MCO (Orlando) at United.com and they want $600 per person with a minimun of 1 stop. I checked a travel web site and found that you can get a non stop flight from PIT (Pittsburgh) to MCO for only $200 per person. One would be silly to pay an extra $400 per person to fly from PKB. It isn't hard to see where one can really save the big money when flying unless you like having to wait in an airport to change planes and run the risk of either missing the next flight or being delayed. Do your research before flying from PKB and you will almost always get better flight times and extra money in your wallet to use on your trip.
