A local hospital and Wendy's paired together Thursday on the annual Great American Smokeout to encourage people to kick the habit.

Selby General Hospital representatives handed out Wendy's coupons to people who turned in their tobacco products for the day.

Health officials hope this will encourage them to quit for good.

They were also giving out information on their free cessation classes that include the gum, patch, and lozenges to those who qualify.

I am a smoker and I have smoked for many of years. I have always done it in a manner of respect I throw away my ends of my ciggs and stand in designated areas. The way I feel about it is if you dont want to smoke then don't stand outside, beside me SMOKING!!!!!! It's alright that im outside standing in the freezing cold: that's my choice... but when people take your choices away. Then the world becomes communist. i thought that this was a free country. by the time we are done you won't be allowed to do anything. Smoke, drink, eat, or enjoy anything along those lines. The way I look at it is your choice to stand outside and smoke. If you don't want to smoke then don't stand in the smoking area. duh

I wonder why Camden-Clark Memorial and St. Joseph's hospitals don't do anything like this since they are "leading the pack." Would think this would be a logical move to make when going smoke free.
