Youngsters aren't the only ones who get presents they quickly take apart.
But the students who got a Hino Motors truck will be working on putting it back together again.
"And on behalf of the Wood County Technical Center, of Wood County Schools and its students and staff, we thank you very much," Doug Kiger of the county schools' Technical Center told Hino officials Friday.
The truck got the look-over from students at the technical center's auto shop. Soon, they'll be using it as part of their training for auto mechanics projects. Hino says it's part of its commitment to local education.
"We've created scholarships for four students every year, at $1,000 each, so long-term," said Hino West Virginia General Manager Joe Chronley, "that will be a program that is about equal in value to $16,000 as four students continue through four years of education."
And while Hino's local plant, which recently observed the anniversary of its first production vehicle, is located in West Virginia, its commitment didn't stop at the edge of the Ohio River.
"We've also today donated an engine to Washington County Career Center in Marietta," Chronley said. "So, we're very pleased to support education in this region."
Hino, admittedly, hopes to see some return from its investment.
Chronley notes that some of the students from the auto shop program could eventually stay in the area to work for his company.
