Americas Styrenics has announced it's eliminating 60 jobs at its Marietta plant on Ohio Route Seven.

The Marietta plant also is reducing its production of polystyrene by close to 350 million pounds.

The company says the action is a result not only of the current economic downturn, but of economic pressures on the industry during the past several years.

"It's other resin replacements, other material replacements. Certainly, the economy has something to do with it. If there's anything good to come out of this, we think this new configuration will allow us to be sustainable for the long term."

Has anyone thought to do an article on the downsizing of most of the major plants in the area? With this story that leaves Sabic and Cytec laying off, Dupont laying off their sub-contractor UTI (at least a 150 people) not to mention the union contractors, Eramet furnace production down. Thats just the major popular employers. How many more are out reducing and downsizing that aren't even heard of? Surely, that has to have an effect on the local economy but only bits and pieces are heard. Wonder when it will all come together?
