The roads weren't icy...but they were wet...when a northbound Ford Taurus went left of center at mid-morning Tuesday on Ohio Route Seven between Pomeroy and Tuppers Plains...striking a semi in the left front tire.
"This caused the Ford Taurus to go off the east side of the roadway," said Sgt. Brian Rutherford, from the Ohio Higway Patrol's Gallia County post, "and the semi to rest (off the side of the road) after it separated between the two units."
The semi was a tanker truck hauling 7800 gallons of diesel fuel. The accident resulted in a spill which required a cleanup of a stream located close to where the truck came to rest.
The accident did not affect classes at Eastern High School, about a half-mile from the accident site. It was, however, in front of the Tuppers Plains Water Department.
"Their wells and taps are to the west of the roadway," Sgt. Rutherford said, "so none of the drainage from the truck has managed to get into the waterways, as far as drinking water is concerned. The high school is glad to know we have at least one lane open, so they can at least get the buses through, on normal schedule, anyway."
And as of late Tuesday this afternoon, the two-lane stretch of Route 7 a half-mile north of Eastern Local High School is still down to one-lane...although traffic is running in both directions.
The injured were taken to St.Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg...but we have been unable to find out much beyond that...since their names haven't been made available to us.
