American Municipal Power has announced it is partnering with San Francisco-based Bechtel Power Corporation in the construction and design of the proposed multi-billion dollar plant in Meigs County.
AMP-Ohio first announced the project more than three years ago, and has been awaiting the granting of construction and environmental permits.
"We already have wind and electric in our portfolio, in addition to fossil fuels. At the same time, we're developing hydroelectric projects on the river, looking at more wind. But we understand fossil fuels have got to be a part of the future."
The coal-fired power plant is intended to generate power with lower emissions, while stabilizing electric power prices and creating employment in the area.
