Some area youngsters are finalists in a contest to design a new logo for West Virginia's Westest examination.

Finalists for the contest were chosen for each grade from grade three to eleven...and among them is 11-year-old Bryan Stone, who goes to Hamilton Middle School.

Stone explained to us how he designed a logo design which highlights all of the subjects on which students are required to show aptitude in the standardized statewide test.

"When I went to do this, I was just drawing something quick," he explains. "At first, I got on the computer to see what the old Westest logo was. Then, I decided I could do something similar with the state."

One other Wood County student, Tori Shepherd of Parkersburg South High School, is a finalist from 10th grade.

The other area finalist is 8th grader Josh Chancey, from Ripley High School.

The overall winner will be announced at the January meeting of the West Virginia Board of Education.
