Nationally the U.S. Postal Service said they're reevaluating delivery schedules because fewer letters and packages are being sent. A spokesperson said it's the largest decline since the Great Depression.

So the U.S. Postal Service is streamlining delivery but you shouldn't be seeing changes at your mailbox.

Representatives of the districts covering Wood and Washington Counties said a few minor rural routes will be adjusted but Parkersburg and other main routes shouldn't be affected.

"Primarily the reason that the Columbus district is not being impacted as greatly by the route adjustments that other districts are doing is because we are going to be putting in brand new state of the art machines called flat sequencing sorting machines," said Kathy Lucas, communications specialist of the U.S. Postal Service for the Columbus district.

These machines will sort magazines and large envelopes for carriers.
The machines will give carriers more time to be out on the field delivering mail so they will need less carriers to cover the same amount of ground.

Lucas said once this system is in place the number of temporary workers will decline. The machines are set to be installed this winter.
