No promises were made about keeping Century Aluminum in Ravenswood but the mayor is still optimistic after the talks Saturday.
Mayor Lucy Harbert said she believes they'll be able to save the plant but details weren't released because officials want to make sure everyone will be able to bring to the table what they say they will.
"Well I thought it was a very good meeting like he (Governor Joe Manchin) said everyone's come to the table and they're all willing to do what has to be done and I think it'll happen," said Harbert.
She still said nothing is for certain in this economy and leaders don't want to announce anything until they know for sure that they can keep the plant.
The city and school tax bases depend on the plant but Mayor Harbert said they'll find a way to continue even if the plant would shut down.
"No we'll find something else. I've got three and a half years yet. My term will be up in three and a half years, no it will not be a ghost town. We'll do something. We'll get a river boat, a gambling boat, on the river. Oh jeez but you know something we'll do something." said Harbert.
She said they haven't utilized the Ohio River to its full potential and this is one idea to generate revenue.
